APPLE Bible Study Method.
If you’ve ever opened your Bible and wondered where to start and where do you read first, you’re not alone. The Bible is deep, rich, and full of wisdom but sometimes, it can feel overwhelming. The APPLE Bible study method gives you a simple, faith-filled way to slow down and really listen for God’s voice in Scripture.
This method isn’t just about reading—it’s about discovering. Each letter in the word “APPLE” helps you see more of who God is, what He promises, and how His Word can transform your heart and life.
This post is all about the APPLE Bible study method
What is the APPLE Bible Study Method?
It is a simple, powerful way to draw closer to God, it will strengthen your faith, and uncover the beauty and truth in His Word. Using this approach, you’ll begin to see Scripture not as something to check off your to-do list, but as a living, breathing conversation with your Savior. Studying your Bible is where you will get your foundation of your relationship with Him.
The APPLE method is a simple acronym that helps guide your quiet time with God. Each letter represents a focus area to help you slow down and reflect deeply on the passage you’re studying.
Here’s what each letter stands for:
A: Attributes of God
P: Promises of God
P: Principles of Life
L: Lessons Learned
E: Examples to Follow
When you use the APPLE method, you’re not just reading the Bible—you’re learning to recognize God’s character, trust His promises, apply His principles, and walk in His ways.
Let’s look at each letter more closely.
A – Attributes of God
An attribute is a quality or characteristic that belongs to someone and when it comes to God, His attributes are the heartbeat of who He is. As you read Scripture, take note of what the passage reveals about God’s character. Is He showing mercy? Justice? Patience? Power? Love?
When you uncover God’s attributes, you start to see Him not as distant or unreachable, but as deeply personal and near.
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” — Psalm 103:8
Think about that. Every verse that speaks of His kindness, His faithfulness, His power—it’s an open window into the heart of your Creator.
Ask yourself as you study:
What does this verse reveal about who God is?
How does this attribute comfort, challenge, or strengthen me?
How can I reflect this attribute in my own life?
When you begin to look for God’s attributes, the Bible becomes more than a book—it becomes a love letter, each line revealing His nature and His heart for His people.
Take joy in discovering these qualities. It’s a delight to see just how endlessly good, patient, and faithful He is.
P – Promises of God
The Bible is filled with promises—whispers of hope, strength, and peace meant to steady your soul. These promises remind us that God is always working, even when we cannot see it.
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen.” — 2 Corinthians 1:20
As you study, underline or highlight each promise you find. Some are universal (like God’s presence and love), and some are specific to people or situations. But every promise reflects His heart for His children.
Ask yourself:
What has God promised in this passage?
How does this promise strengthen my faith?
Am I living in a way that reflects trust in His promises?
The more aware you are of His promises, the more your faith grows. Because His Word reminds us: He cannot lie. He cannot fail. And He never forgets His promises.
Sometimes, all you need in a hard moment is to cling to one of these truths—to remember that He will never leave you, that His grace is sufficient, that He works all things for good.
Let His promises soften your fears and strengthen your soul.
P – Principles of Life
Next, look for principles—those timeless truths that show you how to live a life that honors God.
Principles are not always stated directly; sometimes, they’re found in the way a person lives, responds, or obeys. For instance, when you read about Joseph’s faithfulness or Ruth’s loyalty, you see principles of perseverance, integrity, and trust in God’s plan.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
Ask yourself:
What life principle does this verse teach me?
How can I apply this truth to my daily life?
How might my actions or mindset change because of it?
When life feels uncertain, God’s principles give us a foundation that won’t crack under pressure. They teach us how to respond in love, humility, and faith, no matter what comes our way.
Living by God’s principles doesn’t mean life will be easy—but it does mean you’ll walk in step with His will, guided by His wisdom.
L – Lessons Learned
The Bible is a teacher that never tires. Every page offers a lesson—some gentle, some hard, but all meant to shape your heart more like His.
When you study Scripture, ask: What lesson is God teaching me here?
Maybe it’s patience through waiting, or forgiveness when it’s hard. Maybe it’s courage when you feel small or faith when you can’t see the way forward.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
The lessons of Scripture don’t just inform us—they transform us.
When we allow the Word to change us, it molds our thoughts, softens our hearts, and strengthens our faith.
You might even keep a “Lessons Learned” section in your journal. Write down what God teaches you each time you read. Later, you’ll look back and see how He’s been writing His story in your life all along.
E – Examples to Follow
Finally, look for examples—people in Scripture whose faith, obedience, and perseverance can guide your own walk with God.
Sometimes these are examples of what to do (like Mary’s surrender, David’s worship, Daniel’s prayer). Other times, they’re examples of what not to do (like Jonah’s resistance or Saul’s jealousy).
“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 11:1
Ask yourself:
Who is setting an example in this passage?
What can I learn from their actions or choices?
How can I follow that example in my own life?
God fills His Word with stories and people who show us that faith is not perfection—it’s persistence. We follow their footsteps, trusting that the same God who was faithful to them will be faithful to us too.
How to Use the APPLE Bible Study Method in Your Daily Routine
Here’s how you can apply it step-by-step:
Choose a passage. Start small—just a few verses or one chapter.
Pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and open your heart.
Read slowly. Read the passage once for understanding, then again with intention.
Work through each letter. Write out what you notice for each part of APPLE.
Reflect and apply. Ask God how you can live out what you’ve learned today.
You can do this method in your journal, your Bible margin, or even a notebook beside your morning coffee. What matters most is that you’re spending time with God—not just studying about Him.
Why the APPLE Method Matters
Studying the Bible isn’t about information—it’s about transformation.
Methods like APPLE or S.O.A.P. (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer. I have a whole post about the SOAP method, I will link it here!) help you slow down and listen for the still, small voice of God. They turn ordinary moments—before the kids wake up, during nap time, in the quiet of night—into sacred spaces.
When you take time to reflect on the Attributes, Promises, Principles, Lessons, and Examples in God’s Word, you’ll begin to see His fingerprints in every part of your life.
You’ll see His faithfulness more clearly.
You’ll trust His promises more deeply.
You’ll live His principles more naturally.
You’ll learn His lessons more quickly.
And you’ll follow His examples more joyfully.
That’s how your heart changes. That’s how faith deepens. That’s how you grow closer to Him.
So grab your Bible, your pen, and maybe a cozy blanket—and start discovering the beauty of God’s Word one letter at a time. 🍎
