What to pack in hospital bag
We are expecting our 3rd baby within the next 4 weeks. I have learned a lot from what I took with the last two kids.
In this post I will nclude what is actually necessary for your hospital stay when you have your baby. You do not need to pack your whole house and everything you have for the baby in your hospital bag.
For my first baby my husband and I had a duffle bag and a 2 back packs. We packed so much more than we ever needed.. Our second we just had a duffle bag, for our third I think I will just pack a backpack.
We’ve learned so much and are able to narrow it down to what you REALLY need for your trip to the hospital. So let’s get into it already!
For Mom:
A Robe- I didn’t bring a robe with my first daughter, but I did with my second and loved it. It is so coinvent and comfy. Also it is so easy for nursing.
Comfy Clothes- I am totally into sweat sets right now and will be packing some this time around. Last time I wore the comfiest jumpsuit to the hospital and then I wore ti home. I would bring about 2 comfy outfits to wear.
Comfy Shoes- I am sure you know how hard it is to get your shoes on super pregnant. Bring some shoes that are comfy and easy to get on. I have a pair of house slippers I will be packing to bring with me.
Toiletries- Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. I also always bring witch hazel for after labor and I LOVE it. If you have some special lotion, or cream you love bring that too.
For Dad:
Comfy Clothes- Dad should pack about 2-3 comfy outfits. My husband always brings t-shirts and basketball shorts.
Comfy Footwear- Bryton normally brings his favorite tennis shoes.
Toiletries- This is quite similar to the list you bring for mom if you couldn’t tell. If your husband shaves often have him bring some stuff to shave with. Deorderant is always a great idea also.
Misc.
Snacks- I am always so hungry after labor and during the first 3 months of breastfeeding, so I pack my favorite snacks for babies arrival.
IDs- I am notorious for forgetting my purse, but I make it a point to have my driver’s license and debit card with me when I go into labor.
Phone chargers- You will want your phone to take a million photos of your sweet new baby, so don’t forget your charger!
Entertainment- I am a huge reader, so I always bring a book with me for labor. But if you do not like books then bring something you enjoy, your iPad, wordcross, laptop, pack of cards or whatever you want.
Gifts for the Nurses- This you do not have to do, it is just something I like to do to show m appreciation for them. I do normally bake some sort of cookie or bring chocolate and some Starbucks gift cards.
For Baby:
Car Seat + Base- I recommend having the car seat and base already in the car before you even go into labor. That way you do not need to think about it and it is already done.
2 Newborn Outfits- With my first daughter I brought no joke like 7 outfits… I did not need that many. I love doing skin to skin so I think I ended up putting her in own, the outfit we picked for her to come home in. For my second I brought 2 outfits. One for when people visited so she was dressed, and the going home outfit. That is what I will be doing for my third baby as well.
Swaddles- The hospital will provide you some blankets and a swaddle, but I like to bring my own. I am picky about what fabric goes on my babies due to their sensitive skin. Both my older girls have eczema and so I just plan to use the same bamboo and muslin swaddles for this third love bug. I normally bring 2-3 swaddles.
Diapers- Again the hospital will provide you with diapers, but I am just a huge fan of All Good and Hello Bello. So I always just bring my own.
Conclusion:
Now remember this is what I am bringing in my hospital bag. If you want to add or take away something from the list then do it. We as a society get to caught up in what others are doing. But this is your baby and your experience so bring what is important to you!
You got this Momma!
