14 Tried and TrueSecond Trimester Must-Haves Every Pregnant Mom Actually Needs

The second trimester is often called the sweet spot of pregnancy, and as a mom of 5 I agree. The second trimester is my fave. The nausea may ease and your energy will return, your body is still doing the work of the Lord, and that is hard work. This season is about comfort, support, and making everyday go as smooth as it can. Your body is still going through a ton of changes, your bump grows and there is still a strain on your body as it provides for someone else.

This post is all about second trimester must-haves for moms.

1. Leggings or Sweatpants

Soft, stretchy, forgiving. These become your uniform. Look for breathable fabrics and high-rise waistbands that grow with your bump without squeezing. I personally LIVE in sweat pants, I even invested in some nice cozy linen pants to wear to church.

2. A  Supportive Bra

Your body is changing quickly. A comfortable, wireless, supportive bra can ease back and shoulder tension and make you feel more like yourself again. I have a very large breast size so I shop at ThirdLove. I love the bras, they last forever, they’re comfy and supportive!

3. Body Butter Lotion

As your belly grows, your skin stretches—and it can itch soooo bad. A nice body butter or lotion keeps skin hydrated and helps with being uncomfortable and itchy. It can also help with stretch marks.

4. Knee Pillow

Sleep is slightly harder in the second trimester. A knee pillow helps the growing and changing your body is going through. It keeps you comfy yet it doesn’t take up the whole bed like a body pillow.

5. A Water Bottle

Hydration matters more than ever. A large, easy-to-carry water bottle makes drinking enough water feel doable throughout the day. I love a tumbler and I bring them with me everywhere. Water is so important for you and for your baby.

6. A Prenatal Vitamin

If the first trimester made vitamins unbearable, now is the time to find one your body tolerates. Vitamins are crucial and helpful in providing your baby and you everything you need. Folic acid is especially important for the brain development for your babe.

7. Healthy, Easy Snacks

Second-trimester hunger is real. My go tos are protein bars, trail mix (I LOVE the omega Mix from Power Up), fruit, yogurt, or snack packs you can grab quickly to keep energy steady. Especially if you’re recovering from the nausea the first trimester brings. Having some go to easy and healthy snacks is a must.

8. Maternity Shirts

Flowy tees, soft tanks, and breathable fabrics that grow with your bump help you feel put together without trying too hard. Comfy clothes are a must, having some good shirts to accommodate your growing body.

9. Compression Socks

They may not be glamorous, but they are lifesaving. Compression socks help with swelling, circulation, and long days on your feet. If you have more kids just laying on the couch and doing nothing isn’t an option. Keeping your feet up and being relaxed is impossible as a mother. But compression socks can help keep the swelling down while still being the active and attentive mother you are.

10. A Belly Band

As your bump grows, a belly band can ease lower back strain and pelvic pressure, I didn’t use belly band until my 4th baby but man do I wish I could go back in time and use it for all 5 kids. They help with the pain and discomfort that pregnancy brings.

11. Comfy, Easy-to-Get-On Shoes

Easy to get on is the key here honestly. Once your belly grows getting to your feet is like an act of congress. Slip-on sneakers, clogs, or cushioned slides that don’t require bending or tying will change your life.

14. Grace for Your Body

Your body is changing. Some days you’ll feel strong and radiant, others slow and heavy. Both are normal. Both are worthy of kindness. You are making a person, and the hormones and strain it puts on your body is no joke. Be patient.

The second trimester isn’t about doing more, it’s about supporting what’s already happening. You are growing life. Let comfort be part of your obedience. You do not need to just push through this season of life and ignore what your body is telling you. Listen, if you need  a rest take it.

The second trimester is when pregnancy becomes real in new ways. Your belly stretches, your appetite changes, sleep gets harder, and comfort becomes less of a luxury and more of a necessity. These second-trimester must-haves are the things that made my days easier, my body more supported, and my heart feel just a little more cared for. You can do this momma. You are doing amazing!
